I grew up in a house of women. There was me, my mom, and my sister.
Poor Dad was simply outnumbered. Despite being rather geeky, I knew
very little about the world of boys and men, having been immersed for
so long in life from a feminine viewpoint.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered I was having a baby boy. I had no idea how to raise the little guy who was about to make an appearance. So, I fell back on a familiar activity: layette shopping. I decided that the least I could do was go out and buy some clothes for the little one to let him know that mentally and emotionally I was preparing for him and not some baby of unknown gender. While I still chose clothing in fairly gender neutral colors, I always went to the boys section of the stores to see what was available. Hmmph. It usually took all of a minute (this after wading through 5 minutes of beautiful clothes for little girls) for me to determine that the selection of clothing for boys was miniscule. How ridiculous! As if parents don't want to dress up their adorable little boys in gorgeous clothes? I suppose that realization played a large part in my decision to start up Hide and Seek.
